At Therapists That Care, our mission is to deliver exceptional post-operative care for patients recovering from hip and knee replacements. We are committed to ensuring that both patients and caregivers are well-informed, confident, and supported throughout the recovery journey. Our team works diligently to prepare patients for a safe transition home, providing guidance on post- op care, coordinating timely home health services, and offer options for quality outpatient Physical Therapy when needed.
We aim to enhance not only individual patient outcomes, but also the overall efficiency and success of the Surgical Centers we partner with—supporting the growth and optimization of their Total Joint Programs. With a goal of maintaining patient satisfaction, we prioritize quality, compassion, and communication in every step of care.

Since earning her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Oakland University, Allison has been dedicated to empowering individuals to celebrate every milestone—big or small—while fostering intrinsic motivation, autonomy, and confidence in their own abilities. She brings extensive experience across all stages of rehabilitation, having worked in hospitals, outpatient surgical centers, home care, and traditional outpatient settings. This diverse background gives her a comprehensive understanding of the continuum of care, as well as the ability to proactively address challenges with creative, individualized strategies.
Allison particularly enjoys working in outpatient surgical centers, where she provides thorough, personalized education that equips patients and caregivers for success early in the recovery process.
Outside of her professional life, she loves cooking and baking, playing golf and softball, traveling, and walking her two golden retrievers, Maverick and Goose.
Sandy Phillips

Sandy is a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant with a background in post-operative and outpatient rehabilitation. She earned her Physical Therapist Assistant degree from Washtenaw Community College in 2020 and also received a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Eastern Michigan University.
Sandy has experience working with patients following surgery to improve mobility, manage pain, and promote safe, efficient recovery through evidence-based care and patient education. She has also taught at Washtenaw Community College, supporting the training of future rehabilitation professionals.
Outside of work, Sandy enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Katlyn McDonald

Katlyn McDonald is a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant with four years of experience in outpatient rehabilitation and surgical recovery settings. Inspired by her own journey through injury and physical therapy, Katlyn is passionate about helping patients regain strength and return to the activities they love.

As a proud Central Michigan University alumni, Alison began her career as a Certified Athletic Trainer, spending 12 years working on the field with high school athletes to prevent injuries and guide safe return-to-play decisions. Those early years built a strong foundation in injury assessment, rehabilitation, and performance training, while also shaping her passion for education and patient advocacy. Working closely with young athletes, coaches, and families, Alison learned the importance of clear communication, proactive care, and helping individuals stay active and confident in their abilities.
For the past 18 years, Alison has worked as a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant in outpatient physical therapy settings, supporting patients as they rebuild strength, restore mobility, and return to independent living. During the last 7 years, she has dedicated her efforts to help develop a comprehensive total joint recovery program within ambulatory surgical centers, focusing on patient advocacy, exceptional quality of care, and clear, efficient education throughout every phase of the total joint recovery process. Helping individuals navigate post operative joint replacement confidently and resume the activities they enjoy has brought her career full circle—from caring for high school athletes on the field to empowering people of all ages to maintain active, healthy lifestyles.
Outside of work, Alison enjoys spending time with her family and friends, walking her dogs, working in her yard, and practicing yoga.
Lavon Ellis

Lavon Ellis, COTA/L, is a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant with more than 30 years of dedicated experience delivering comprehensive, patient-centered Care. She earned her Associate of Applied Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Wayne County Community College in 1993.
Throughout her career, Lavon has provided comprehensive Occupational Therapy Services across a wide range of clinical settings, including inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, acute care, and hospital-based rehabilitation programs. She has worked extensively with both pediatric and adult populations, demonstrating versatility and clinical excellence across diverse patient needs.
In addition to her hospital-based experience, Lavon has worked students within School settings, supporting students with special needs across multidisciplinary teams. Over the past several years, she has specialized in same-day surgical recovery for total knee and total hip replacements. In this role, she collaborates closely with patients and their families to develop meaningful home safety strategies, facilitate rapid rehabilitation, and ensure safe and efficient discharge planning. Lavon has also led educational classes for patients and families undergoing total joint replacement, empowering them with knowledge and confidence throughout the recovery process. Lavon’s career reflects a strong commitment to restoring function, promoting independence, and delivering high-quality therapeutic outcomes across diverse populations and clinical environments.
Outside of her professional work, Lavon enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, attending church, reading, shopping, and gardening.
James Simeone

James brings over 25 years of dedicated experience in physical therapy to his work with patients and surgical teams. He earned his Physical Therapist Assistant degree from Professional Skills Institute in Ohio and later completed his bachelor’s degree in business administration at Northwood University.
The majority of James’s career has been spent in outpatient orthopedic settings, where he has guided patients through recovery with a focus on restoring function, confidence, and quality of life. He is passionate about helping individuals return to their daily activities as the best version of themselves.
Over the past nine years, James has developed and implemented a comprehensive total joint program within ambulatory surgery centers. This program is thoughtfully designed to enhance the overall patient experience while ensuring that the earliest steps of recovery begin on the right path. By equipping patients and caregivers with practical tools, clear education, and compassionate support, James helps create a safe and confident transition home while laying the foundation for a successful rehabilitation journey.
Outside of work, James values time spent with family and friends. He enjoys golfing, coaching softball, and staying active through yard work and fitness.
